1. Personal safety: For any solo woman traveller, personal safety is paramount, especially if you are travelling in any of the Asian countries. Pepper spray, Swiss knife, a metal knuckle or maybe a pointed tip of a pen is something that can come handy in adverse situation. It is always important to be active and alert.
2. Toiletries & sanitation products: Women by nature are just a little more hygiene conscious and need a few things whenever they travel. Sanitary wipes, face wash, liquid hand wash, wet wipes, menstrual cup or panty liners are amongst the few must have things in your easy access travel kit. Pee buddy or say a toilet seat sanitiser is important for women incase they need to use public washrooms.
3. Local SIM and Emergency contact numbers: Always have a local SIM with enough data. Make sure to have multiple copies of emergency contact numbers with one in each of your travel bags. If you are travelling solo, in adverse situations you don’t want to be stranded for help. Not just a on your mobile phone, you should have these contact numbers on a physical paper incase your devices do not work!
4. Comfortable footwear: Alright ladies, we understand that a good picture is important. More important is to travel comfortable. Trade your fancy footwear with walking shoes which have a comfortable sole. If you are going for a trek, make sure to have warm socks and a thick sole to protect your feet.
5. Appropriate clothing: Always travel light with comfortable clothes. Light t-shirts, pair of jeans, comfy pants, shawl/long scarf which can be used in many ways, warm jackets, ear muffs, a hoodie, a cap are few of the must have things in your travel bag.
6. Electronics: If you are travelling solo, there are couple of electronic items that you definitely need. A good camera to capture all the beautiful things that you come across. A good phone to use maps, language guides, click more pictures and of course stay connected with your family & friends. A touch light is something that is a must. A good multipurpose charger and power bank to ensure none of your devices run out of battery.
7. First aid kit: A first aid kit with generic medicines is a must. Your kit should carry medicines like those for period cramps, headaches, upset stomach, band aids etc. Always carry a crepe bandage in your kit. Each medicine should be clearly labeled and checked for expiry dates,
8. Snacks and munchies: Always have something to munch on and boost your energy while you travel. If you are more of an adventurous types, you are bound to find yourself in areas where food might not be easy access like in the cities. Mint, candy, protein or energy bars and a water bottle is a must. Always have a packet of Glucose and a few tablets of Digene. Glucose will help for instant energy boost and Digene will help as you will be eating out mostly.
9. Books: If you like to sit by the ocean or a beautiful hill and sip your coffee, a book can make for an excellent companion. It can come handy if you want to kill sometime on long journeys. Choose a gripping narrative which will double your vacation fun.
10. Documents and currency: Always have with you a document organiser where you can keep your passport, important documents like visas, identity cards, debit/credit cards or currency. This not only saves time but also makes sure that you don’t loose these crucial things.
